Indians Are a Good Bad on MJ Fireworks Tribute Night
I thought I would try to watch an Indians game again, well at least more than a couple innings even if it got to the usual 6-1 opponent lead by the third inning. So far as I’m writing this the Indians bats have come alive and they are leading 8-3, but it’s wayyyyyy early. There is still that thing called the bullpen waiting in the wings. I’m guessing win or lose the Indians and A’s players will want to escape from Progressive Field like smooth criminals before the MJ tribute fireworks show starts.
Here are some things that caught my script, and after this season, black and blue “I”:
-There is still some incentive to watch Indians games. STO is giving away Browns tickets during the Oakland series.
-It’s weird to see Jason Giambi on this A’s team. He’s not the star he once was but in my opinion he’s literally and figuratively too big for a small market team like Oakland, he looks out of place.
-To a lesser extent, the same can be said for Nomar Garciaparra.
-Changing gears a bit, good news for Columbus Blue Jackets fans as Rick Nash signed an 8 year, $62.4 million extension to remain in C-Bus earlier today.
-The am/pm and ESPN voice-over guys must be related in some way.
-Shin-Soo Choo has now driven in six runs after hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the 5th to put the Indians up 13-3. And not just because of tonight, I said this on Twitter a few days ago as well. I totally disagree with Bruce Drennan that Choo is a guy the Indians should look to get rid of to get pitching help. The Indians don’t exactly have an abundance of hitting, power, or outfielders with a great arm. I say keep the kid, he’s one of the few that plays hard everyday.
-One last changing of gears. I think Danny Ferry did a poor job of going after free agent talent these last few days. Sure, the Shaq signing may slightly improve the team, and it can set up chaotic pressers, but I would be guilty of being out of touch with reality if I thought the addition of him alone will bring a title to Cleveland. The Cavs as they stand today, are maybe the 4th or 5th best team in the league. But maybe I am being a little harsh to criticize Ferry, granted he does deserve some, but, maybe guys just don’t want to play here. I think that’s one thing we may all be in denial about.
-If Austin Carr were calling the Indians game, he would have said, Shin-Soo Choo, goes deep next to the Q, times two, after his second home run of the game in the bottom of the 7th. Seven RBI‘s now for Choo, two short of the team record.
I’m gonna amazingly concede this one to the Indians, right now it’s 15-3 in the 8th. The actual final score was… . The Indians finally encountered a team that mirrored how they play most of the time. Bad starting pitching, bad relief pitching, poor defense, and goes through the motions. But incredibly the A’s do have a better record. Even if neither of these teams stuck around for fireworks after the game, they both need to look at the man in the mirror after this season, and change their ways.
