The Republicans have actively wooed the tinfoil-hat brigade, so it's not surprising that, as more and more educated and intelligent people refuse to self-identify as Republicans, the percentage of wingnuts in the party gets larger and larger. I have no sympathy for the so-called "Goldwater" Republicans who still call themselves Republicans. They should have started speaking out long ago, and supporting their fellow (now ex-) Republicans, like John Dean, who were pleading with them to curb the crazies. Too late now.
