Family-Friendly Halloween Fun in Northeast Ohio
Not sure what to do this Halloween? Fortunately, Cleveland and Northeast Ohio offer a number of family-friendly, fun things to do around Halloween, suitable for a variety of age groups. Here are some of the highlights:
Boo at the Zoo - Oct. 18-21, 25-28, 5:30-8:30pm.
"Boo at the Zoo" is a family-friendly alternative to traditional trick-or-treating designed for children ages 3 to 11. It's held annually at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, which is set up with different candy stations throughout the park. Guests are encouraged to wear fun, but not scary, costumes. Refreshments and live entertainment are also provided. The event always sells out, so be sure to visit the zoo's website to reserve your tickets.
Halloweekends at Cedar Point - Fridays through Sundays, from September 14 to October 28, 2007
During this time of year each fall, Cedar Point transforms itself into a spooky, haunted park. Special attractions during Halloweekends include Spooktacular live entertainment, Camp Spooky, Fear Faire, spooky characters and monsters roaming the park, and more. A new addition for 2007 is the "Monster Midway Invasion Celebration Parade", which is held Saturday & Sunday at 4pm. For more information, visit Cedar Point's website.
Great Pumpkin Express - Weekends from October 12th to the 27th
Catch a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad at the Rockside Road Station. The trip features a costume contest, treats, and mini pumpkins for children, as well as a maze and scavenger hunt in the park. The train departs Oct. 20, 21, 27, & 28 at 10:15am. Enchanted Forest @ Shaker Lakes Nature Center - Oct. 27, 2007
Kids and adults are invited to the Shaker Lakes Nature Center to learn about Cleveland Halloween legends, as well as participate in a family-friendly trick-or-treat. Cookies and cider are served. Halloween Hayrides & Giant Corn Maze @ Lake Farmpark - Oct. 12-27th
Lake Farmpark offers a giant corn maze, hayrides, live entertainment, and food each weekend from Oct. 12 to 27th. Hours of operation are 6-9pm. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for children 3-12, and children under 3 are free. For details call (440) 256-2158.
