On the subject of an Article V Convention

Only yesterday I said that I supported Kucinich for President. Now this story has made me re-think that support.

Let me be clear. I support an Article V Convention ( http://foavc.org ) which would allow the States to propose amendments and ratify them without the approval of Congress or the President.

In particular, I support initiative, referenda and recall at the national and state levels as a democratic right of the people. If we had this now we could remove Bush and Cheney ourselves and bypass a corrupt and inept Congress.

But Kucinich is not supporting an Article V Convention as far as I can tell in this story.

Kucinich is trying to acquire the political power of a "Constitutional Convention" without ACTUALLY calling for one. That's timid and ineffective leadership in my opinion.

Joel Hirschorn ( above ) claims that the Congress has refused to obey the Constitution for over 200 years. I think this is false. In any case, it's a matter of interpretation ( done by Congress ) and the facts are not in evidence as far as I know.

I have repeatedly attempted to acquire the actual "applications" from the States for a Convention. But this has not been easy and as far as I know nobody has actually acquired them.

Please contact me if you are in the Washington DC area and are willing to pursue the matter. It will require a physical visit to the National Archives and spending a considerable amount of time with a contact I have there.

The bottom line is that these documents (applications from the States for an Article V Convention ) have been hidden from public view. The method used has been "obscurity through categorization." There is no straightforward manner in effect for indexing these documents so that they can be easily retrieved from the archive.
