Mr. Khadr We’re requesting the Canadian government for a long time.
Unidentified man Is that right?
Mr. Khadr Yeah.
Man Yeah, it’s not as easy as it can be.
Clip 2
Man Alright, well we’ll pick up something, and then how about we get together tomorrow for a talk?
Mr. Khadr No problem.
Man Alright?
Mr. Khadr I’m very happy to see you.
Man Yeah, it’s good seeing you.
Clip 3
[Mr. Khadr’s hand is covering his face. He lifts up his shirt.]
Mr. Khadr I can’t move my arms and all of these ... is this healthy? [Shows the man his chest.]
Man No.
Mr. Khadr Is this healthy? I can’t move my arm. I requested medical over a long time. They don’t do anything about it. [Covers his face and sobs.]
Man No, I mean they look like they’re healing well to me. You know, I’m not a doctor but I think you’re getting good medical care.
Mr. Khadr No, I’m not. You’re not here. [Cries.] I lost my eyes. I lost my feet, everything.
Man No, you still have your eyes and your feet are still at the end of your legs, you know. Look, I want to take a few minutes, I want you to get yourself together, you know, relax a bit, have a bite to eat and we’ll start again. You know, I understand this is stressful but, you know, by using this as a strategy to talk to us, it’s not gonna be any more helpful. I mean we’ve got a limited amount of time and you know, we’ve heard this story before.
Mr. Khadr You don’t care about me, that’s why.
Man Well I do care about you, but I want to talk to the honest Omar that I was talking to yesterday. I don’t want to talk to this Omar.
Mr. Khadr It wasn’t honest.
Man Yes it was.
Mr. Khadr You see, you’re not going to believe me.
Man Well look me straight in the eyes and tell me that you were being honest.
Mr. Khadr [Looks up at the man.] I am being honest.
Man Omar, you can’t even bear to look at me when you’re saying that.
Mr. Khadr [Looking at him.] I can’t bear to look at you?
Man You know, put your hand down.
Mr. Khadr [He hides behind his hand and cries.] No, you don’t care about me.
Man OK, look. Let’s take a few minutes ... take a break, have a little bit to eat before your hamburger gets cold.
Another man Put your vest on.
Man Relax a bit.
Woman Put the A/C back on.
Mr. Khadr You don’t care about me.
Man That’s not true, people do care about you.
[The two men and woman stand up.]
Other man Put the fan on so you’re cool.
Woman Put your shirt back on.
Man Take a few minutes and relax a bit.
[Mr. Khadr puts his shirt back on. He puts his hands on his head and slumps over, crying. The room is now empty.]
Clip 5
[Different room. Mr. Khadr sits on a blue couch. The man seats himself in a chair by the wall.]
Man Now look, I was very disappointed yesterday, you know. But these things happen. We’ve only got a couple of days here, you and I, to speak. I think it’s important that we try to get as much done as possible. Have you thought at all about what we discussed earlier? Tell me what you’re thinking.
[Mr. Khadr is drinking from a pop can.]
Mr. Khadr I’m thinking of the day I’m gonna get out of here.
Man And what are you going to do on that day?
Mr. Khadr Go back home.
Man Where’s home? To Canada?
Mr. Khadr [Inaudible.]
[Time elapsed.]
Woman [Laughs.]
Man You want a chocolate bar or something? You don’t think so?
Mr. Khadr I want to go back to Canada.
Man You want to go back to Canada? Well, there’s not anything I can do about that. I want to stay in Cuba with you. Can you help me with that?
Mr. Khadr [It sounds like he says, “I don’t think it’s good to stay here.”]
Man No? Weather’s nice, there’s no snow.
[Time elapsed.]
Man What other interesting things do you want to tell me about?
Mr. Khadr I want to know how I’m going to go back home.
Man Well, that’s difficult to say, eh?
[Time elapsed. People are seen getting up to leave.]
[Mr. Khadr says what sounds like, “I want to call my grandparents.”]
Man Pardon me?
[Mr. Khadr says what sounds like, “I want to call my grandparents.”]
Man Well, I can’t arrange that.
Mr. Khadr You ain’t doing anything for me.
Man Pardon me?
Mr. Khadr You can’t do anything for me.
Man We can’t do anything to you.
Second man We can’t do anything for you, only you can help yourself.
[Man turns on fan]
