Peter Gabriel Cancels Oscars Performance in Protest of 65 Second Limitation

Peter Gabriel was slated to perform at the Oscars ceremony, but has now pulled out after organizers shortened his time on the stage to just 65 seconds. The Academy Award nominated singer posted a video on his websiite in which he says he had hoped to perform the complete version of Down to Earth.

Down to Earth is featured in Wall-E, and Thomas Newman was nominated along with Gabriel.

"It's a bit unfortunate," said Gabriel, who added that he's a bit of "an old far" that could afford to "make a little protest."

Gabriel says that he will still attend the Oscars on February 22, but is hoping that the Soweto Gospel Choir will stand in for him onstage.

Down to Earth is nominated alongside two songs featured in Slumdog Millionaire by Indian composer AR Rahman.
