Madonna has a totally wrong image and reputation for the Twilight series, just like Cher and Michael Jackson wouldn't fit either. Now I can understand why Catherine Hardwicke walked away from the project. Any producer of New Moon who thinks Madonna fits is way out of touch with why the Twilight series is beloved and why the movie was a "financial" success, and that's really sad.
