The whims of fate

The United States has done pretty well holding the union together. Even the US Civil War was much less about slavery than about protecting and enforcing the omnipotent will of the federal government.

One one side of the coin, secession looks like an unavoidable event. States fed up with the bureaucratic morass that is Washington have a duty to their citizens to do just that.

On the other side, secession is almost a prescription for political and economic suicide unless proximate states do likewise and at the same time. But even then, it is a crap shoot that could lead to Civil War 2 and untold suffering.

One thing does seem for sure, though, and that is that the current status quo of the government/corporate hegemony (military/industrial complex) is eventually going to lead to some major problems for our nation.
