Marijuana Potency is at an All-Time High
Good news for pot smokers - marijuana's potency has hit an all-time high. According to scientists, the levels of THC found in weed these days has a higher concentration of the psychoactive ingredient THC.
The University of Mississippi's Potency Monitoring Project tests thousands of samples of seized marijuana each year, and found that the levels of THC have now eclipsed 30 percent. During 2008, the average THC concentration was 10.1%. That's compared to 7.3% in 2007 and under 4% in 1983.
THC concentrations have been on the rise for three decades. Mahmoud ElSohly, director of the school's project, predicts that the concentrations will continue to rise before leveling off at an average of 15 to 16% in five to ten years.
Some now fear that inexperienced marijuana smokers make not moderate their intake, and worry that they may suffer from paranoia, irritability and other negative effects.

Actually this is nothing new, pot has always come in different strengths of THC, there's low grade, mid grade and high grade. THC potency is effected by sun light, temperature at which it is stored and handling practices among many more. THC potency in a marijuana plant has a point of peaking, and after that it degrades. Maybe it was the first time they got a quality sample that had not degraded yet, timing is everything. So if its stronger you can smoke less and be even more healthy for doing so.
The only reason this little piece of news is out today is because there are some people that stand to profit of the fact it is illegal and they see the polls and all the momentum legalization has as of late, so of course an article that makes pot sound dangerous is going to come out, they are trying to protect their financial interest, the only problem is its too late, the majority now knows the truth and we are not going to stop until there are fair laws in place, period.
I do like the use of words such as "predicts" and "may"
They "MAY" not limit intake, and it "MAY" cause irritability
he "PREDICTS" that THC levels will rise and level off in around 5 to 10 years.
Ok so lets put everyone in prison, that's the answer, we have plenty of tax money so we can turn non violent tax payers into tax burdens for the rest. Wow, force is always the right answer in America I guess.
finally someone who speaks the truth. If you want to smoke, do it. This is America home of the free, but in this case "home of the full prisons." keep it up lets make these "terrorists" rich and give them all our cash for there shit weed. or move to california =] I think we should have marijuana legalized or it least decriminalized and just give them bad health insurance. simple its a plant and i think god put it on here for a reason.
