Clay Aiken is Not a Fan of Adam Lambert

Do I sense a cat fight coming on? Clay Aiken, an American Idol loser from the reality show's second season, wrote on his official fan site that he's no fan of fellow runner-up Adam Lambert.

"Now that it's all over, and for the record... I couldn't be happier about the way AI ended this year."

"I only turn the show on once a season, and only to see what the set looks like each year. This year, I happened to turn it during the minute that Adam Lambert was singing 'Ring of Fire' and, at that moment, thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful, and slightly frightening!"

"I wasn't really a fan and found myself surprised whenever folks told me that they liked him. Granted, I never saw another performance (and many folks who I trust said that he was great) but I can't imagine I would have enjoyed it. Just not my cup of tea at all."

Aiken also admits that he never saw AI's winner Kris Allen sing on the show, but does say that he is "likeable." He also believes that viewers voted against Lambert because of the "obvious bias" by judges:

"Not even having watched the show, I can tell you that I was WELL aware of the bias from the judges as to who should win. In my opinion, that is awfully unattractive. I don't think I am alone," said Aiken.

Clay also thinks that Adam shouldn't have won because he has too much experience, and doesn't like the direction that the show has taken.

"The show was different then, and folks made it in seasons 1-3 because they were 'real' people who happened to sing/entertain well. But, somewhere along the way, AI stopped being about real people."

Why does Clay keep mentioning over and over again that he didn't watch Idol this year? I think what he really means is that he tuned in weekly, and snuggled in with a giant bowl of popcorn to see if another rumored to be gay contestant could outshine him on American Idol.

who are you CLAY AIKEN, dont use the name of Adam to gain attention from the public.I pity you.Your the real Gay anyway!

Oh, PLEASE, Aiken! Wow, can't help but notice the HAIR similarity already! come on - you perhaps need to watch your ealiest AI footage to remember what YOU looked like before the stylists got to you. Yeah, remember that? Bitter much? You seem to be laughing all the way to a New York bank, with plenty of publicity of your own, now you're so 'all that'? Um, no. And I'm gay as well -- at least AL went out of the box and didn't do the same crap that everyone else did. He didn't win, because he's too 'nichey' -- has nothing to do with being gay. Kris Allen has the kind of non-threatening good looks and OK voice which will sell plenty of DVD's for people to buy their moms/grandmothers at Christmas and on Mother's Day, which is exactly what we did with Taylor HIcks', Ruben Studdard's, YOURS, etc. It's a POP contest, not niche contest. I don't think you've suffered, AL is 1000% more daring than you are, and he'll do well for himself as well. You're both Broadway boys so I have no idea why you think you have any right to b*tch about him.

This is a joke, why should his opinion matter, he didn't even watch the show! For real, this just makes me laugh! hahahaahha

Aiken went up against the Gay Reich! Whatever will he do now? He'll be banned from every bath house from SF to NYC.

How low can you get Gay Aiken? Seriously, Adam is much better than you in every damn way.

These comments were meant to answer a question posted by a fan on his fansite. Not for the world to judge. I agree with his assessment of AI, the judges should judge not push any contestant above the rest. I liked Adam a lot but that particular song was certainly not my favorite. Think everyone is making a big deal out of nothing. He didn't attack the man personally just critiqued one song. I have a lot of favorite artists that I hate some of their songs, doesn't mean I am trashing the person. The press is making this a big deal as usual. Find something more interesting to talk about.

First off, I'm a Clay fan (or was), and have his CD, but I'm not an idiot. I know when someone goes too far and Clay did. My CD is old and dusty now and I could care less to try and stick up for him. This isn't the first time he's said or done something rude.

Fact is, as a professional artist, you just don't trash another artist like that. 2nd, I'm shocked that someone like Clay who was supposed to be So humble often isn't. Next, I'm very surprised that someone with a voice like his is completely unable to hear how professional Adam Lambert is. And he missed the fact that he re-created Ring of Fire and made it very interesting. No off key notes either. The fact that Clay can miss all that is just so strange and seems to point out some kind of jealousy. OR he's inept at judging other peoples performances even if he does have a good voice.

But to those saying he didn't trash Adam on different sites, THINK again because to say something so harsh, like "His ears bled", usually reserved for perhaps William Hung, that was too much. And to say Adam's performance was "frightening"? Then to go on about how they used to have "real" people on idol? And compare himself to current idol artists like that?

It seems every time Clay surfaces in the media there is something he has done to demonstrate that he's not humble after all, but instead a conceited ego maniac. I just tossed my CD of him in the trash. I *honestly* really don't t think I will be playing it in the future. I won't enjoy it as much thinking about all the rude things he says while the tracks play. Over reacting? Nah. Just bored and sick and tired of Clay's attitude.

You have no right to judge Adam! You SUCK!!!! ADAM was the best singer American Idol ever had!!! You need to keep your big mouth shut!!! You just wish you could sing as well as he does. He will have more fame and money than you could ever wish for.

adam is amazing! ring of fire was awesomee. he changed up his song completely to make it original. LAMBERT ALL THE WAY! he should have come out on top

This is getting blown way out of proportion. I believe he said he didn't like a particular song and I agree I didn't either. But I did like a lot of Adam's other performances. The real point of the comments were about the AI machine. If anyone hurt Adam's chances it was the judges. They made people turn against their favorite and vote for someone else. He is absolutely right about that! It blew up in their face! But never fear they will promote him like crazy, I just feel bad for Kris because I think he will be left in the dust....too bad seemed like a nice guy.

Clay, when Adam wants your opinion, he'll tell you what it is! You are not worthy enough to even be regarded as Adam's underarm hair so take your bitter twisted opinion and disappear.

I can't believe you people, Adam SUCKS donkey balls. He's terrible.

The numbers speak for themselves... Adam Lambert has 14 entries in the Top 25 on I tunes and the other guy has 3 entries in the Top 25. Adam also has over 350,000 hits to his duet with Kiss. It is the most watched video on You Tube and has been for the past 2 days. Thanks K K K Kristian "hate voters"

Clay Aiken did NOT say anything bad about Adam Lambert! He just said he didn't like Adam's Ring Of Fire song. I agree with Clay on that one. It was God AWFUL! Even Simon said it was awful. For the record here is what Clay Aiken did say, it was more about AI and how they promote one contestant over another. Clay is right, they have done it for YEARS! I for one am SICK of it and being told who to vote for. I CAN decide for myself thank you very much AI.

Now that it's all over, and for the record.... I couldn't be happier about the way AI ended this year. I only turn the show on once a season, and only to see what the set looks like each year. This year, I happened to turn it during the minute that Adam Lambert was singing "Ring of Fire" and, at that moment, thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful, and slightly frightening! I wasn't really a fan and found myself surprised whenever folks told me that they liked him. Granted, I never saw another performance (and many folks who I trust said that he was great) but I can't imagine I would have enjoyed it. Just not my cup of tea at all. To each his own. I never saw Kris sing on the show, but whether he was good or not is really relative. It's usually a matter of taste, right? But Idol is not always a matter of musical taste only. It's about the person you like. From what little I saw, Kris seemed likable. (That's not to say that Adam isn't just as likable as anyone.. maybe more so... I don't know) When Ruben and I were standing next to each other every night (many years ago) you had two equally talented, equally unlikely, equally unpolished contestants.... so it really was a matter of taste as to who was voted for. While some may argue that one of us was hyped more than the other, I don't feel that was the case. However, this year, there was an obvious bias. Not even having watched the show, I can tell you that I was WELL aware of the bias from the judges as to who should win. In my opinion, that is awfully unattractive. I don't think I am alone.

In my opinion, it all often comes down to that last night of voting. Until the finale, folks are voting for the contestant that they want to see continue. But, I believe that on that last night, the dynamic changes. No longer forced to choose one person that they want to see win, the audience can effectively vote AGAINST the person that they don't want to see win. In the case of season two this might have happened. There may have been some folks who voted for myself or Ruben because they didn't like the other of us. I was the nerdy little girly boy who some didn't want to see win, so they may have voted for Ruben. I don't know. .. But again, I feel that Ruben and I were fairly matched. We both had our detractors and negatives, but I feel we were both very worthy of being on that stage in that moment, and either of us would have been worthy of winning. The show was different then, and folks made it in seasons 1-3 because they were "real" people who happened to sing/entertain well. But, somewhere along the way, AI stopped being about real people and started being about "fame" and "gloss"; It stopped being about the talented kid-next-door and started being about who was most marketable. (I don't think anyone would have argued in 2003 that Ruben or I were extremely marketable.) So, this year it was not like 2003. This year it all came down to two contestants so extremely different and mis-matched.... one that was so obviously the "favorite"... so hyped and polished and "ready for market"; who (accurately or inaccurately) came off to many as arrogant and superior ... and one kid who no one thought had a chance and (accurately or inaccurately) came off as humble and real.

In a battle between David and Goliath, my money is on David!

I think many voters got sick of being "told who to vote for". I think many were turned off by the blatant favoritism shown towards one contestant. Therefore, on that last night, they used their votes against a contestant that they were tired of hearing about and for the contestant who had been written off. And, at the same time, I think they voted AGAINST an American Idol that has, for four years now, been more about the slick productions and polished contestants than it has been about finding the raw talent that it did in its first three seasons.

Those votes for Kris were also votes to return the show to its roots of finding "real" contestants with undiscovered talent and giving them the chance to grow and shine. They were votes that said "we're tired of seeing contestants who already seem to know it all".

Will American Idol choose to listen to the resounding and clarion call that those voters gave them?.... "Enough with the pretention. More Rubens, more Clays, more Fantasias and Tamyras and Kellys please." My faith has always been in the voters. I think they have gotten it right every year (mine included). It's now up to American Idol to decide if it will finally REALLY listen to the folks that keep it on the air.

If the media is going to jump all over Clay Aiken they ought to at least Quote ALL of what he said and not just pieces of it.

Oh Please Clay. Take a deep breath and get a grip before you alienate the last fans you have. Show a little graciousness and restraint and hope and pray that someone does not do to you what you just did to Adam. Remember it comes back 10 fold...good and bad! Maybe anti-depressants are in order to chase away the little green monsters.

PoopholeDude, Thanks for your brilliant post! It proves everything I've said since Wednesday. The ignorance of people like you is staggering.

I don't think it's Adam's musical skills that Clay is envious of.

He just posted an apology to Adam...he said he didn't realize anyone would give damn about his opinion. He said he just gave an opinion about one song and Adam should not care what he thinks....he wished him well.....big man to give an apology on a grand scale!

This is a tale about Good v. Evil and how our perceptions can be so wrong. Week after week we were told that it was a contest between the L.A. theater guy and the guy who sings at church. Our theater guy Adam has an edge, he could get up on stage and be the bad boy swaggering to funky music, the man whose tears we tracked, or the cocky Rat Pack Romeo. Our heart was always in his hands and he could make us feel everything. There was something magic happening between him and his audience. Our L.A. guy was assaulted by the media in a way that was unprecedented for an Idol contestant. Diverse spectrums of our society wanted to suck off his media attention, everyone from Perez Hilton to Bill O’Riley wanted to further their social agendas. Wasn’t this a singing contest? Throughout this ordeal Adam worked to bring something we could love to the stage every week sang his heart out an amazed us with the awesomeness that is Adam Lambert. As we got to know him we realized that it wasn’t just that he could sing, he could charm, disarm and with intelligence and grace showed us how fearless winners perform under adversity. This is the man who was portrayed as “evil”.
The good boy with the crooked smile came in under the radar. If you don’t know what that really means, it is a euphemism for unimpressive talent. The good boy has been all over the world helping the poor we are told. The good boy is the hometown hero and is totally eclipsed by our L.A. guy. The world was watching Adam, producers being the opportunist that they are, had Adam sing last so as not to lose their audience. Judges were accused of “pimping” Adam by giving him praise. When the truth of the matter is that a very ordinary home town boy, the guy you can find in any college campus coffee house was wrongly elevated to the statute that would suggest that a competition was going on. Need I only remind you that Marvin Gaye was seen jumping out of his grave on finals night.
Second place was not what the marginal talent from Arkansas wanted. His team of savvy tech fans decided that in a display state pride that would go for the gold. It did not matter to them that the guy that was going for the legit win had bested Kris week after week. The guy we cried for, just for being in the bottom two, the guy that befriended his fellow contestants with such humility and praise that even they thought that they were more talented then they are. Kris and his Arkansas pals did not give a damn! Ruthlessly they set up shop to take Adam down. They planed it at church! They game planed on the radio! Kris hometown posted on the Internet how to generate thousands of votes per person how to defy the time zone restriction and in my opinion, how to jam Adam’s lines.
How many other contestants were affected by this vote stacking? Did less talented Kris take down Danny from his place in the show down; take Allison down on her strongest night? We will never know. Now Kris wants “respect” in the music business. Sure Kris.

This was a sleazy win by a reprehensible group of people. Kris has a hollow victory that lacks legitimacy. He knew when the winner was announced that the title he took belonged to Adam. Him and his fans screwed Adam! Let this be a lesson about public perception. Just who was “Good” and who was “Evil”?

Wasn't there a recent article about Clay stopping by AI and they were not happy and kept him away from the three remaining contestants? Who cares what Clay thinks about Adam? Clay is yesterday's news.

I used to be a fan but all my photos of you, tour programs and your CDs have been dumped. You are a has-been who managed to throw away a promising career by deserting the fans who supported you. We have a new Idol now, Adam Lambert, who has more talent than you ever dreamed of. It will be awesome watching his career soar. At least he isn't a phony like you. Go back to Broadway if they'll have you. You're done!

This was a very bad move on Clay's part. He sounds like a very bitter person because his career is pretty much non-existent.

I think he is upset at all the fans who didn't buy 20 to 30 copies of his 2nd CD like they did with the first. Bitter because he was dropped by RCA when he didn't sell CD's.

For someone who claims not to watch Idol but only tunes in once a year "to see what the set looks like," you seem to know an awful lot about what went on this year. You're lying about not watching the show just like you lied about not being gay ("not that there's anything wrong with that," to quote Jerry Seinfeld). You should be ashamed of yourself for your remarks. Sour grapes indeed!

Yes' I did see Clay's latest Blog. Clay is a class act.

Yes megan, there was an article about Clay, it was made up by a "publication" called the National Inquirer. You know, the one that took Brooke Shield's Mother from the retirement home recently. The poor woman has dementia! Same wonderful publication that said Farah was on her death bed 2 years ago and who paid some medical worker to get her medical records. The one that says Aliens live next door to you.

The truth is Clay was on the AI lot to to see friends and to show off his baby son. He never saw the Contestants, THEY WEREN'T EVEN THERE. You don't just walk onto a TV series production lot unless they KNOW YOU and KNOW you are coming and for what purpose. Now run along and go post your stupid little comment on a few other blogs where they might fall for it.

Shut -ski up-ski Clay.! We have heard enough of your BS.! Go back into obscurity and hold your breath for the day we want to hear YOUR music. Something like ......"cold day in hell" comes to mind!

AI judges have been pushing their favorite contestants since day one with Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini in season 1 - Rueben and Clay in season 2 (even though Kimberly Locke should have won) - Fantasia, Latoya London in season 3 (Jennifer Hudson could do no right in Simon's eyes - just shows you what he knows) and on and on and on - But, HELLO, that's why they are the JUDGES - they are supposed to give their opinions. Clay's just bitter, because his career has been going down the tubes since he put his hands on Kelly Rippa's mouth - tacky behavior. But no one ever makes a comeback by trash-talking their fellow artists. I've lost all respect for him. I think Adam is the best contestant to ever come out of AI - he's right up there with Carrie Underwood in my opinion - the only 2 contestants I would ever want to see in concert.
