Local National Figure Skating Champ to Skate in Ice Show Benefiting Muscular Dystrophy Association

Parker Pennington, a resident of Westlake, OH and national figure skating champion, has rounded up more than a dozen of his skating friends to put on an event called "Skate For Life". The event will take place June 27 at 7pm at Hoover Arena in Strongsville, and all proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Tickets are on sale now, and with just 800 seats available in the area, they are sure to go fast. It's also a very unique opportunity for spectators to enjoy a close-up look at award-winning skaters and dancers that most usually only get to see on television.

The event will also feature a pre-show meet and greet with the show's stars from 5pm to 6pm, a live auction, and an after-show reception. Information on the meet and greet and ticket sales is available at www.mdaskateforlife.org.

Pennington, 24, is the only skater to ever win National titles at the Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice and Junior levels of amateur figure skating. In 2002-2003, he was the third best staker in the world at the Junior Level. He currently resides in Westlake, where he trains with Carol Heiss-Jenkins.

Pennington's reason for organizing the event to benefit MDA is a personal one:

"My dad was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy 10 years ago, and I am aware of the wonderful programs the organization provides. I am producing this show to benefit others who have been affected by the same debilitating disease. It is my hope that one day there will be a cure."

In addition to Parker Pennington, others performing in the show include:

Alissa Czisny - 2009 US Ladies National Champion, World Team member
