South Carolina Republican Likens Michelle Obama to a Gorrilla, Apologizes

Activist Rusty DePass, a prominent South Carolina Republican, was caught likening FIrst Lady Michelle Obama to an escaped gorilla. Commenting on a report posted to Facebook about a gorilla escape at a zoo in Columbia, SC on Friday, DePass wrote: "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless."
SC political blogger Will Folks busted DePass, forcing him into an apology. DePass told WIS-TV in Columbia:
"I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest." He added, "The comment was hers, not mine," claiming Michelle Obama made a recent remark about humans descending from apes.
Columbia's mayor, Bob Coble, has called for DePass to issue a proper apology, stating:
"The comment is reprehensible. There's nothing funny about it. What he needs to do is simply apologize in a straightforward manner."
DePass was the former chairman of the Richland County Republican Party, was an early back of George W. Bush, and was the co-chairman of Rudy Giuliani's 2008 campaign in Richland County, the largest county in the state.

White trash
If Republicans want to sit at the governance table and act like adults they will be included. They have to stop acting like white trash first! I'm a white male, 47 years old. I voted for Obama, and I'd do it again. Obama is DOING THINGS to help the country. If you want the country to improve BE PART OF THE SOLUTION. If you want Obama and the country to fail, your no better than the terrorists!
It's a Proud Moment to be a Republican--NOT!
If Republicans want someone to blame for what is happening in America, they need look no farther than their own mirrors. This hate-mongering is destructive and dangerous and, thanks to be God, it doesn't work with the up-and-coming electorate of any color. The hideous face of bigotry and hatred represented by Messrs. Limbaugh and DePass and their ilk can't be covered by up Michael Steele or any other Republican "explainer." Where are the Republicans who have the courage to stand up against the hate-mongering and call it what it is--Un-American! Even if you never win another election, guys and gals, at least you could look yourselves in the mirror without retching at what you see.

The guy made a stupid remark, and apologized...next. Its more than what Letterman did, with his half -hearted "apology" for his Palin comments.
Obama has done the following to "help" the country:
* Quadrupled the national debt with the stroke of a pen. We will likely never be able to pay this down.
* His spending is beyond out of control,to the point that some surveys suggest that Americans now trust the Republicans over Democrats in managing the economy. (That did not take long to turn around)
* Shaken the confidence of foreign governments who no longer want to buy our debt (China,Russia)
* Took over a private company in GM. This is unconstitutional, and wreaks of socialism.
* Bailed out the UAW at the expense of GM , Chrysler, and the taxpayers.
* Is having his treasury department print more trillions of dollars which will take our currency down to worthless paper.
* Rammed through the "stimulus" package which is clearly not working, given that unemployment continues to rise each month. He did not even read the bill, and it was full of earmarks, which he pledged against.
* He has praised Islam, snubbed Christianity and Judaism, and has portrayed a very weak image to our enemies. North Korea can practically be seen thumbing their noses at us now. I think they are up to a missile launch per week?
* Has, according to prominent RUSSIAN newspaper PRAVDA, descended us into Marxism at an alarming speed.
There are several more examples I could cite, but this should suffice for now.
I'm really confused as to how he has helped our country. Please cite examples, and be specific.
Seriously, Letterman is a
Seriously, Letterman is a comedian. This guy is a freaking congressman. Not saying Letterman didn't show poor taste, but it's not like the Palin's aren't blowing it out of proportion and milking it try and stay relevant. This wasn't a real apology. Frankly, I don't care if he does. I just can't wait for the day when this generation of racist hacks has died out of government.
Just Wondering
I'm just wondering what that list of items you "Reply" wrote has to do with the insulting comment that a Rebulican leader (not a comedian) made about our 1st Lady. Just for the sake of arguement lets assume everything you wrote is true. Does that justify disrepectful behavior? I voted for Bush twice and it made me frustrated to hear him blamed for everything that went wrong and disrepected. Republicans continued to complain that it was desrepectful of the man and the office. Has something changed now that we have a Democrat in the White House? Hmmm.
usual republican garbage
No need to dig a deeper hole than they are digging for themselves. Its so funny how everything that Obama is doing is wrong, but none of this kind of uproar was evident when Bush was in office making so many messes. Sooner than later they will see how much their party has lost relevance
Bob: Keep on playing the
Bob:
Keep on playing the socialism/communism card. It’s pretty cool to see some people haven't got over irrational Cold War era fears. Also, if you knew anything about the political theory behind those two ideologies you would see how far we are from both of them. But I guess it’s true because Fox"News" says it, right? Where to begin...
His apology was half assed. He said he was sorry but ultimately did not accept responsibility for HIS words and instead blamed them on HER. That is not an apology. It’s a trick to fool people into thinking he apologized. I guess it worked on you though. When you apologize you take responsibility. He didn't. His apology means nothing when he blames the words on her.
Most of that national debt you talk about was from Bush. Sorry to break it to you. The confidence in the dollar was eroded by the massive global financial collapse. Not by Obama's policies. American financial institutions were largely to blame for the whole meltdown. That is what has shaken world confidence in the dollar. As far as your comments about the stimulus go, they are rather baseless. Things take TIME to work. You can't expect a great turn around in a few weeks, or in 3 or 4 months. It is a HUGE system and you need a large amount of time for things such as that to work their way into the flow of things. There is no such thing as instantaneous change, like the kind you seem to be expecting.
He didn't "snub Christianity and Judaism". I take it you are referring to his we are not a Christian nation comment and his stance on Israel. He is CORRECT oin both counts. Perhaps you need to brush up on your US History. This is not a Christian nation. This is a nation that was founded especially to be SEPARATE from all that kind of garbage. The founding fathers KNEW history and KNEW that when you mix religion and politics you will end up with a non-functioning, divided society. They LEARNED this by looking back at European history. He is also correct to take a much more hardline stance regarding Israel and their actions. They ahve to be willing to make some FAIR concessions.
NK is not doing this because it thinks we are weak. It is doing this to solidify the place of Kim's son so when he hands the country over to him his Generals won't use the new leader as an excuse to seize power. This is not due to Obama.
Just because Pravda thinks we are in descending into Marxism, and Pravda is a Russian paper, doesn’t mean a damn thing. That is a piss poor attempt at using logic. Russian was never "communist" or Marxist. It was something different that used aspects of Marxist ideology but never really took it all the way and combined it with other similar types of political thought. Your statement there doesn't help your case.

Im sorry, accually im not, but that is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Kim Jong Il is building NUCLEAR WEAPONS that have every capability to destroy the world just to make sure his son stays in power. Wow this is the worst liberal excuse for the blinding obvious I ever have read.
DePass - Michelle Obama
DePass wrote: "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless." Doesn't DePass realize that we're all descended from the great apes? Just because the color of his skin is white doesn't make him better than black people. I just don't understand these bigoted people.
DePass
Ok. I've had it. We lost big time in November, you pick the reason. After that, all hell broke loose. Jindal, Steele, Cantor??? Chip Saltsman, Anuzis, Katon Dawson..its jsut too much. Have we become the party of racist, extremist, crybabies?? I'm out.
