Stallworth Sentenced to 30 Days Jail, 10 Years Probation

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth pleaded guilty to a charge of DUI manslaughter on Tuesday, and will spend 30 days in jail. In addition to the jail time, he will also serve 10 years probation and perform 1,000 hours of community service.

Stallworth, 28, hit and killed 59-year-old Mario Reyes on March 14 in Miami on the busy MacArthur Causeway. Stallworth's blood alcohol level after the crash was .126, well above Florida's .08 limit. Police reports say that Reyes was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by Stallworth.

It was reported earlier today that Stallworth also reached a financial settlement with the Reyes family. The amount involved in that settlement is not known and is said to be confidential.

Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns prior to last season. He was, however, injured much of the year.

I cannot believe the leniency of this sentence. If the disparity in power between the victim and the defendant were a bit less, I guess it might have been different. But if you have money (to settle with the family), your criminal misdeeds don't seem like such a big deal. This is extremely sad.

This old guy tried to cross a HIGHWAY and got hit by a car? I don't even think he should be punished at all, the only reason is b/c his BAC was .124...I'm certainly not condoning drunk driving, but even a 100% sober person is going to hit and kill a moron crossing the middle of a highway during rush hour.

Michael Vick gets a year and half for dog fighting and Stallworth gets slapped on the wrist for killing a guy. The justice system makes no sense. You get more than 30 days for drug possesion in a lot cases!

I agree that the sentence wasn't harsh enough especially given the photos of the crime scene!
