A New Era Starts at Churchill Downs - Night Racing at the Home of the Kentucky Derby

The most famous horse track in the United States will start a new era today. Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, will host night racing for the first time in its history. Many are comparing this to when Wrigley Field installed lights becoming the last Major League Baseball team to do so.
The company that runs the track hope to attract a bigger crowd with night racing and invested $600,000 in the lighting fixtures at the track.
"‚Äll We wanted to run the experiment and give our customers — the voice that matters most — the opportunity to vote on the question," CEO of Churchill Downs Inc Bill Carstanjen told the Louisville Courier Journal today.
Carstanjen adds that they expect a crowd as big as 20,000 for the debut of night racing when the normal Friday schedule attracts 7,500 patrons.
Don't fret if you think daytime racing is a thing of the past. The company says that they want to keep it special by limiting the days that racing will be held under the lights. Maybe one day the "Run for the Roses" will be held on primetime in the first Saturday in May....
