Verizon MiFi: The Perfect Gift for the Dad on the Go

Looking for the perfect last minute gift for your dad? If he's a frequent traveler who's chained to his laptop or simply enjoys the unrestricted mobility of 3G, then he'll definitely appreciate the latest offering from Verizion - the tiny MiFi 2200 router. It is by far the best solution available on the market for laptop 3G, and blows those old network access cards out of the water.

Rough the the size of a few credit cards stacked up, the MiFi slips easily into a pocket, is super easy to set up, and it's fast. The device's built-in software allows you to hook your laptop directly up to the modem and connect to the internet through Verizon's EV-DO (Rev. A) network. That in itself isn't all that special. But what is pretty amazing is its ability to turn into a wireless router, providing wireless internet access for up to 5 devices in a 30-foot range. That means you can connect your laptop without being tethered, and at the same time, connect to the net on your iTouch, Blackberry, or any other device with wireless connectivity capability.

Because Verizon has the most nationwide coverage of any service provider in the U.S., giving the MiFi to your dad this Father's Day will ensure him internet connectivity virtually anywhere he goes - whether its across the country, or out in the middle of a lake on a boat. And it's not just any old internet access, it's access at 3G speeds, which are roughly the equivalent of DSL speeds. The MiFi also has a battery life of four hours on the road, or up to 40 hours of standby time.

Now, for the price. The MiFi itself is $149.99 with a two-year contract, but right now if you buy it online you get a $50 discount, bringing it down to just $99.99. As for your monthly fees, you have two choices: a $60 plan with a 5GB limit, or a $40 plan with a 250MB limit.

For frequently travelers, or dads that need unrestricted 3G access, the Verizon MiFi is a must-have device.

An iPhone and Nokia are completely different. This is a device that gets you on the web and allows you to have 5 devices running off it. Its rather awesome if you ask me.
