Should the Cleveland Indians Fire Manager Eric Wedge

Comments

TIme to go Wedgey

One day while waiting for my plane to depart I decided to head to MLB site and see if they had stats for last year based on the so called "little things" like - stranded men left on base, on base percentages, blown saves, bases not stolen? , sacrifice flys not made, successful bunts, swinging bunts, men thrown out leading off, defensive errors etc... as I looked for these things I found a stat for many of them and when you compared the Indians to the other teams in the league the Indians were in the bottom quartile in almost every category found. WHich sucks, That means that 75% of all other teams are much better at managing their games.

If Wedge didnt have any talent on the team I could understand . The opposite is true- his team is loaded with talent and even though the bullpen is weaker than most teams the items they really suck on - to me - comes from piss poor management of the team.

Why were they nearly dead last in men left on base with all those bats in the dugout? Are you kidding me? How many times has Pronk gone up to bat with 2 men on base and no outs and smaks into a double play?

This is where the manager says to the guy as he grabs his tar bag ...
""""'hey Travis , wait for something low and pop the ball into left field so we can advance the guy the 3rd and we'll bunt him in or go for another pop fly and run a guy home. """" But no. Wedge hangs out on the dugout fence counting sheep.

Im no baseball expert nor am I that skilled at the game but when you let your bull pen in a save situation throw balls straight down the middle of the plate you are asking for losses. _Period. End of statement.

When the closers come in they need to be paiting the corners of the plate - preferably inside so that if contact IS made its usually pulled foul so the strikes add up.

Instead - the indians manager watches his guys try to "pride" the ball down the middle... like these batting pros dont know how to hit a gimme on a silver platter.

Say what you want about Jim Leyland but I doubt he'd even let a closer come back into rotation if he was to throw balls down the middle in a save situation. Wedge is incompetentant based on his stats his apathy his mouting losses with a talented crew, and lack of leadership. No amount of 'having bad days' can excuse this pathetic season.

Look if you dont want to fire him - at least FORCE him to be accountable for these little things. THeres a phone by his head in the dugout - I'D be using it.
