Brett Favre Moves Closer to Becoming a Minnesota Viking
By Eugene McCormick. Published on 07/06/2009 - 2:57pm

It appears that Brett Favre hasn't yet realized that he is past his prime. The St Paul Pioneer Press is reporting the aging quarterback has put a $30,000 deposit on a residence in the area so he can play for the Minnesota Vikings. They also reported:
A Brett Favre signing with the Minnesota Vikings is expected to be announced in time for the start of the team's single-game ticket sales July 20.
I know the Vikings' Achilles heal is at signal caller, but don't you think the team would be doing themselves a favor and tried to lure the Cleveland Browns' Derek Anderson to the team instead of a has-been?

No I do not think that
it would be a wiser move for the long term, but who would sell more tickets. Favre or anderson? its an easy awnser...the vikings need to save their team by building a new stadium. what good is locking up a QB for five years if the team leaves the city in two years??
No. Would rather have a 40 year old HOFer than a twenty something nobody.
".the vikings need to save their team by building a new stadium. what good is locking up a QB for five years if the team leaves the city in two years??"
That's absolutely correct.
The vikings current lease on the old Metrodome is set to expire after 2010. If the vikings haven't secured a new stadium deal by then, there is virtually 100% chance Ziggi Wolf (owner) will move the team.
Even in this horrible economy, Favre would bring in not only increased ticket sales (don't forget, the vikings had a difficult time selling playoff tickets last year), but also increased merchandise sales, media coverage (ESPN game vs Packers...will be a big deal) and on and on. Bottom line is money (for not only the players...but the owners as well), although I'm sure Favre really isn't ready to be retired just yet.
Furthermore, a (so called) "Has Been" Favre is a definite upgrade to both Rosenfels and Jackson.
I watched Brett, all but one game last year. He still has it. If he'd go to a team that has all the pieces in place, you'd see, he's still in the top 5. He would definitley fill the stadium. The city would be filled with media all year long. Get Prince, to do another breathtaking half-time show, and you'll have the new stadium. Being from Michigan, I'd like to propose another offer. Come, and get Ford Field. The Lions don't need it.
Hate to be hard on my Lions, but I'm a realist. If I was the commissioner, I'd take the Lions out of the Thanksgiving game. People who don't watch football ,and have that day off, would be more inclined to check out a game with top tier teams. People who watch football every weekend, fall asleep at half-time ,if they turn it on at all.

Agree completely. Obviously Favre's sales will help the team on the marketing side, and I'm sure he'll be a signifact upgrade over our current QB's. My question is, what are our options once we're done at the Metrodome? If the vikes move, I might have to as well.
No. Would rather have a 40 year old HOFer than a twenty something nobody.
Finally, a chance at a Super Bowl in my lifetime....Thank You Brett, thank you...
Hum - couple of thoughts:
- what's the source ... Cleveland who ... do they compete professionally ... and when was the last time they beat Favre at Green Bay? or could in MN? Favre is in his element in the Midwest and the "Black & Blue" conference.
- what is the age of Kurt Warner ... oh ya 1 year younger than Favre ... he surely is a "has been".
- even with Favre being forced to play in the American league, he still brought his team close to a Playoff and competed with the likes of the "da Browns". When was the last playoff Anderson was in? Vikings are being blessed with titan!
Favre is not a has been! If 100% healthy, this legendary player poses a huge threat to the NFC North and will take his second Superbowl ring this year!! A.P. will be his Ryan Grant and then some!
A Packer fan, I hope that the people of Minnesota who as a fan i can't stand appreciate the fact that they might just be lucky enough to really get Favre for even one year.
As much as I love the packers until Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthey are gone I have no interest in their success. I will be a Viking fan for many reasons this year, but most of all I hope the fans of the Vikings really do appreciate the gift they just may about to receive. The Vikings have a great tradition and the team should stay where it is, and a run at a Super Bowl that they actually have a real shot with Favre.
LOL -You silly vikings fans! Yes, an old ass has-been Favre is just what you need. LOL. I can't wait.
You clearly weren't thinking when you said Anderson, so I will just wipe that right off the board, bc i donthave the time to crack on that for an hour as i kick my legs while i laugh as if i'm 9 years old again hearing my 1st dirty joke.
Anyway, QB Brett Favre, 39, still is better than at least half of the QB's who are in their prime today. I have watched and cheered on Favre since day 1 and he is HARDLY washed up. Its called an injury (i find it hilliarious how many ppl dismiss that). After a late arrival to training camp, playing with a complete group of strangers (except Bubba Franks), learning an offense that was night & day to the one he mastered for 16 years, adapting to an entire different set of coaches (bad ones i might add), and next to no offseason conditioning, Favre had the Jets in a very good position and had New York believing for the 1st time in 40 years (aside from Giants fans) that they were Super Bowl Contenders. Favre sustained an injury to his throwing shoulder after posting IMPRESSIVE Numbers that had in in the top 5 as far as QB's OVERALL in the NFL. Going into week 13 (8-3) Favre had 20 TD 2,500 YDS 70% COMP and also had arguably the best game of his career vs Arizona when he TORCHED the eventual NFC Champs with 6 TD passes. Throw in a vintage OT drive (and complete game) in Foxborough, not to the mention a phenomenal 25-32 225 YDS 2 TD in Tennesee the following week....oh yeah, the Titans were 10-0 at the time and threatening to run the table.... The season ended badly, and Favre should (did) accept some of the blame, but instead, he took 100% of the blame and critcism for the teams meltdown. I watched every snap of the Jets 08 season, and noone in the world will convince me those claims are accuarate. Favre stuggles? sure. But you never hear a PEEP about the WR's dropping countless balls (Coles in ther Sea. game stands out the most), a defense that completely dissapeared (25+sacks in 1st 9 games, less than 1 game after that), and some of the worst coaching i can remember seeing in 22 years of watching football. Mangini knew Favre was hurt, but he was calling for 30-35+ passes per game while having the NFL's leading rusher Thomas Jones, who by the way did next to nothing down the stretch. Granted his number was called more more seldom when the season mattered most, but for all the harsh words that came outta his mouth, never once did he acknowledge that his 1,300 YD season had alot to do with the fact that #4 was there and took bodies out of the box. Instead he acted like a 6 year old kid that wasnt allowed to buy the candybar ion the store. Throw in the player(s) who made statements about Favre but never put their name to it (Favre took the high road and never fired back, but he is the bad teammate?).. I could go on and on, but i think you get my point. I LITTERALY laugh my head off when I hear Favre haters and their stupid crap that comes out their mouth. The man OWNES the record book, has displayed an iron-man streak that we will NEVER see done again by an NFL QB, and brought the knind of excitement to the game that see maybe once in a lifetime... how about we maybe, just MAYBE try and enjoy it....while he's here
GREAT synopsis!!!! I agree with you 100%. As a 45+ year Packer fan, I hope he and the Vikings not only beat the Packers, but go all the way to the Super Bowl.
I will always be a Packer fan, but never a Thompson supporter. I will wait until they run Thompson out of town before I return to being a Packer fan.
The Packer Hall of Fame will have Favre in it, along with all the other Packer greats. I bet they won't have Thompson in it.
Good Luck "4!!
WHAT THE....... Derek Who? what a waste of a read. stop while your kind of behind. Favre was unreal for a horrible J.E T S JETS JETS JETS TEAM and is the only reason they did win 9 games. He did wear down, why? because he didnt have sh** to work with. Vikes are Super bowl bound, they are stacked on both sides of the ball, FAVER COULD COACH THE WEST COAST OFFENSE!!!!! and they are ready to win NOW.
FYI. I am a 31 year Packers fan......but a bigger sports fan.
Smart move Vikings,
Idiots that cant see this Favre move is genius, watch the NHL.
Tarvaris Jackson is better than Derek Anderson. See cutler. YOU CANT RUN THE BALL< WHAT ELSE ARE YOU GOING TO DO? PASS 50 times a game!?
dumb dumb dumb. Anderson is a tool along with the Browns.
sorry benny.
How many Pro Bowls has Jackson been to, lol.
You Cleveland fans deserve a lot of credit for viewing this Favre soap opera as it is. He is better than Tarvaris or Sage and will do a very good job in the MN offense. And you guys also know that it is more than just winning games, but a business decision. People in MN are chomping at the bit to buy their purple #4 jerseys. I live in AZ now and I am going to buy the NFL package on cable, if Favre signs, just to watch him play.
The Vikings are not in a situation where they can give the other QBs a chance to prove themselves. The right QB in the right offense spells success on the field. Make that QB a household name (already done with Favre) and you start selling tix and merchandise. Start selling that and you have additional revenue from media for game coverage. That can only help to build support for a new stadium which MN needs anyway. The metrodome is a terrible place to watch a game unless you have something to watch. Threaten to take that entertainment away, and you will have support for your new stadium.
Hopefully it works out for the Vikes...and GO DAWG POUND!
As much as I love the packers until Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthey are gone I have no interest in their success.
you couldnt of said it any better right there.
It appears that he also has not realized that some blogger dweeb on the internet knows more about football and what he can & can't do than he does.
