Ryan Reynolds Cast to Play Popular Comic Book Icon The Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds has landed a role in what is likely to be a blockbuster movie, nabbing the upcoming adaption of The Green Lantern that will hit the big screen in the winter of 2010. The 33-year-old Canadian, who married fellow Hollywood A-Lister Scarlett Johansson last year, beat out the likes of Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper who also coveted the role.

The Flash is an adaptation of a comic series that first debuted in the 1940's. The story line will feature Reynolds portraying Alan Scott, an engineer who has come into possession of a magic lantern. From this, he crafted a magic ring which gave him a wide variety of powers. The limitations of the ring were that it had to be "charged" every 24 hours by touching it to the lantern for a time, and that it did not work on wood. The movie will be directed by Martin Campbell.

The story line will feature Reynolds portraying HAL JORDAN, a SECOND GENERATION TEST PILOT who has come into possession of a magic lantern AND ring which gave him a wide variety of powers. Do your research next time... sloppy.
