President Obama Asks for COSE's Input on Health Care Reform Plan

President Barack Obama has invited COSE (Council of Smaller Enterprises) to participate in tomorrow's Town Hall Meeting to discuss his health care reform plan. The event will take place tomorrow (July 23) around mid-day at Shaker Heights High School near Cleveland. The Obama camp has asked COSE to bring a contingent of small business owners to the event prepared to discuss how the health care coverage issue is impacting their business as well as their reaction to his reform plan.

COSE will send 10 small business owners to the Town Hall Meeting tomorrow, in addition to Steve Millard, COSE's president & executive director. They will all have their own set of questions to present to President Obama on the issue and will be available after the meeting tomorrow for post-event reaction interviews. Please contact Randy Carpenter at the phone number and e-mail address above to arrange any interviews on site at the event.

In addition, Steve Millard has authored an opinion piece from COSE on the current version of the Health Care Reform Plan. The piece offers the opinion that too much of the reform focus I on how to finance reform rather than focusing on the real issue, how to control the escalating cost of health care. The opinion piece can be found at www.cose.org/hcreformopinion.

Obama

A recent report by the White House Council of Economic Advisers claims that the government can cut the projected level of health spending by 15 percent over the next decade and by 30 percent over the next 20 years. Although the reduced spending would result from fewer services rather than lower payments to providers, we are told that this can be done without lowering the quality of care or diminishing our health. I don't believe it
