Fox News' Glenn Beck Calls President Barack Obama a Racist
Glenn Beck, a Fox News Channel commentator, said during a guest appearance on the "Fox & Friends" morning show on Tuesday that he believes President Barack Obama is a racist. He said that Obama has exposed himself as a person with a "deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."
Beck made these remarks during a discussion of Obama's reaction to the arrest of Harvard University scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. Gates, a black man, was arrested for disorderly conduct by a white police officer over a misunderstanding about a break-in at Gates' home.
Fox host Brian Kilmeade challenged Beck's statement on air, noting that most of the people who work for Obama are white.
Beck continued:
"I'm not saying he doesn't like white people. He has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist."
He also wondered what other president would have immediately jumped on the arresting police for their actions in the case. Obama publicly commented on the case in a news conference, stating that he believed that the police acted stupidly. He later backtraced from the statement and invited Gates and police officer Sgt. James Crowley to the White House for a conciliatory meeting later this week.
Obama representatives declined to comment on Beck.
