Movie Review: Disney's G-Force

Over-the-top most accurately describes G-Force, and not necessarily in a bad way. This terrifically ridiculous movie follows a trio of special agent guinea pigs and their mole companion as they attempt to expose a conspiracy involving Leonard Saber, a global appliance manufacturer presumably hell-bent on global domination. Along the way, however, the group of rodents (formally known as G-Force) endure their fair share of obstacles while the clock continues to tick against them.

This film features voice-overs from several legitimate stars including John Favreau (Hurley), Penelope Cruz (Juarez), Nicholas Cage (Speckles), Tracy Morgan (Blaster), and Steve Buscemi (Bucky) whilst gaining support from Will Arnett of Arrested Development fame (Kip Killian) as well as Hangover funnyman Zach Galifianakis (Ben). A casting homerun, Galifianakis's character in this particular movie could not have been any more perfect for his brand of subtle comedy ("Does this make me look fatter?") and charming demeanor.

Of course, G-Force cannot truly be explained without mentioning the incredible animation and special effects that only a Disney budget can buy. Indeed, there were several times when the detail is so wonderful that I had to remind myself I was watching animated characters. From guinea pigs to cockroaches, hamsters to houseflies and mice to moles - in addition to a wildly entertaining ending sequence - the computer animation and special effects are enough to keep most anyone entertained throughout the film's entirety.

Never a dull moment, G-Force is great for people of any age or any maturity level. For me, I was able to enjoy a handful of fart jokes whilst someone like my girlfriend finds more appreciation in the attention raised to how men and women differently handle relationships. And for the kids? Well, as I said, G-Force is terrifically ridiculous, pleasantly over-the-top, and just plain cute.
