HBO Picks Up New Gangster Series to Begin Airing in 2010

If you've been missing your weekly fill of New Jersey gangsters ever since the Sopranos went off the air in 2007, a new show that HBO has just picked up may help fill the void. The cable TV network announced Tuesday that it has ordered 12 episodes of the Martin Scorsese series "Boardwalk Empire".

Starring in the series are Steve Buschemi, Michael Pitt, Kelly MacDonald, and Michael Shannon. Shooting begins this fall in Brooklyn with a premiere anticipated sometime in 2010. Producers on the show include Terence Winter, Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg, and Tim Van Patten.

"Boardwalk Empire" is set in the 1920's at the start of Prohibition, and chronicles the life of Nucky Thompson (Buscemi), who was equal parts politician and gangster in Atlantic City.

The series is based off the book "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City" by Nelson Johnson.

Wir werden sehen, ob es an die Sopranos rankommen kann und ob das überhaupt das Ziel ist. Steve Buschemi is auf jeden Fall eine gute Wahl. Das hat er ja auch schon in Sopranos Season 4 bewießen.

Mal schauen, ob das was wird und wie sehr es mich interessieren könnte.

Ich war ja großer Sopranos-Fan damals und halte meine Serienlust momentan mit The Wire, die ja erst noch vollkommen ins Deutsche synchronisiert werden muss, unter Kontrolle.

Ich hoffe immernoch auf ein Sopranos Prequel.. wahrscheinlich umsonst.
