Nightmarer, Queens Club

Born from the remains of The Chariot comes Queens Club with their debut release, Nightmarer. This disc opens on its title track, which begins with tons of feedback-based bass lines and distorted breaks fronted by this perpetuated whiny tenor vocal that irritates your ears as it’s a trite post-industrial rock jaunt. However, “Dust” sounds like it came out of the shoegaze era of music with its quirky tones and poppy synths as a lilt falsetto rises from the smoke giving us a feminine visual from a masculine band which is kind of creepy in its essence; yet this haunting approach does illuminate their interpretation quite well.

So far, this EP hasn’t appeased the senses until now as “Family Ties” looks like the best track on here with the defined shouts, pummeling chords and intense rhythms that this group should’ve started out with on this recording as it reminds us of early goth and new wave. Just from the first three cuts on this disc, we’re seeing a metamorphosis of vibrations as they’re not an ordinary pop rock outfit or alternative rock at all as their sound is eclectic at best; yet quite disjointed. “Greinke” is another song on here that showcases this explanation as they give us a synth pop kind of feeling with the thumping drums and massive keyboards trumping the pixilated vocals as it does have a good deal of volume to get you dancing.

If this album is a sense of what’s yet to come from them, “Uh Huh” should be removed from the track listing for the full length as it’s a stupid display of ramblings put through a stutter-stop groove and meshed around low key licks as it’s a dirty addition to the selection. They’ve bookended this disc with a Max Justus remix of “Nightmarer” which speeds up the lyrics making them insect-like and tightening up the instrumentations into a sharper pace which may be quite decent for the discotheques and dance hall scene. Queens Club isn’t all there with what they had to offer, but there were some shadows of hope from Nightmarer.

Can you define insect-like?

Well, the vocals sounded like the buzzing of a fly or a cricket's chirp that's what I menat by insect-like, take care. . .

I'm not sure what you were listening to, but it obviously wasn't Queens Club. They're amazing and words like "disjointed" and phrases like "hasn't appeased the senses" should be used to describe your pathetic attempt at a review and not this EP. Nice try.

I love queens club. I thought that dust was awesome. Nick did an amazing, Dan did a great job carrying the song through the whole way.
I appreciate that these guys. Their music is different. Every track is distinct but at the same time, the autograph of QC is easily heard-- through the lyrics of dan, tones of nick, lines of tyler, and beats of jake.. They are all solid. And maybe you were not suspecting that, but I totally loved that I could listen to. The closest sound to them is like edison glass mixed with JUSTUS/MGMT/Passion Pit or maybe even Franz Ferdinand.
It would have to be a dang good mixture to get it all right, but they do a perfect job.

Just wait till "Less talk," "Issinair" and "Haunted House" officially get released.. Hopefully their maturity and musicianship will shine through better in those songs. I liked the EP. Maybe I am biased because I am like the dudes and know them through friends. But still. I dig the sound.

Last comment: 8 bit remix was thousands times better than the max justus remix in my opinion

Unlike many bands, Queen's Club wrote their songs for concerts, not for albums. Because of this, not every song is made for quietly humming in the cubicle, but is truly appreciated at the concert itself. case and point is "uh-huh" it seems like the more people dancing around you, the better it sounds, and the more fun you have in the process.

it's not necessarily a bad thing, queen's club, they have just been preforming these songs to large crowds long before they've ever recorded them. simple as that.
