Sarah Palin Finishes Book Ahead of Schedule, To Be Released November 17
Just four months after announcing her book deal, former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin has finished writing her memoir. The book, which was originally scheduled for a spring 2010 release, will now be available beginning November 17, 2009. "Going Rogue: An American Life" will first be released as a hardcover before the digital edition is made available on December 26, in order to "maximize hardcover sales over the holidays." Anticipating large interest and sales, a first press of 1.5 million books has been ordered.
Palin was able to finish her book quickly with the help of a ghostwriter. Her first book will be 400 pages, and Harper publisher Jonathan Burnham says that a fall release is "the best possible time for a major book of this kind." Burnham also described the book and writing process, stating that “Governor Palin has been unbelievably conscientious and hands-on at every stage, investing herself deeply and passionately in this project. It’s her words, her life, and it’s all there in full and fascinating detail.”
Ever since Senator John McCain choose her as his running mate in 2008, Palin has been the object of much fascination and controversy. Once an obscure public official, Palin became an overnight celebrity, and although Barack Obama and Joe Biden handily won their spots at the White House, interest in Palin has not waned.
During the campaign last year, pundits questioned whether Palin hurt McCain's presidential campaign by "going rogue" and defying the control of his campaign. This past summer, she abruptly resigned as the governor of Alaska with more than a year remaining in her first time.
Just after leaving office, Palin spent several weeks in San Diego where she worked on the manuscript with collaborator Lynn Vincent. Her family and top aide, Meghan Stapleton, later joined her in San Diego. Later the 45-year-old spend a few days in New York working around the clock with Harper editors.
Despite being criticized for a lack of experience, Palin remains a favorite among Conservatives, and is a rumored to be considering a run for President in 2012. Interest in her remains high, so much so that a fan recently paid $63,500 as a part of a charity auction benefiting wounded veterans just to have dinner with her.
