Kate Gosselin: Jon Cleared Out Our Bank Account

Kate Gosselin, the infamous mother of 8 from TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus 8", appeared Monday morning on the "Today" show. During her appearance, she told host Meredith Vieira that her estranged husband, Jon, has cleaned out their joint bank account, leaving her and the children without enough money to survive.

She said:

"He took $230,000 of the $231,000 we had. I have a stack of bills. The last thing I wanted was to do this show and end up not being able to pay our bills."

Kate says that Jon emptied out the account after TLC announced that the family's popular reality show would be relaunched and rebranded "Kate Plus Eight", and leaving him without a job. She said the shared account is used to pay bills and "contains all of our liquid money".

Kate added:

"When you've left your children and their mother without the funds to lay for the roof over their head, it's not acceptable. I need that money to provide for them. We were in the position after our sextuplets were born that we could not pay our bills. We did the show to provide a better life for them. Never did I think I'd be back in the same position."

Under the terms of their divorce arbitrator's guidelines, neither Jon or Kate is allowed to take money from the account. A few days before Kate, 34, filed for divorce in June, she says that Jon withdrew a significant amount of money from the account before the rules were made. Kate, who is the family's primary bill payer, thus removed $100,000 out of the account on the advice of her lawyer.

She told Vieira:

"I removed it to keep it safe. I had taken $100,000 and put it aside safely so I could buy my kids food if needed."

Once Jon and Kate agreed to accepted the decisions made by an arbitrator, she returned her half of the money to the account. She says, however, that Jon, 32, spent his $50,000 on "erratic purchases" for himself.

Kate added:

"I didn't feel like it would be safe, to be honest."

Meanwhile, Jon has publicly commented that his children don't want to continue the show. But Kate says that contrary to his claims, the kids do want to continue filming. She explained how the children were upset when they were told over the weekend that filming was suspended.

"There was wailing and sobbing. [They] love our crew. They are angry."

Despite the troubles, Kate says she is holding up:

"I'm hanging in there. It's hard. Every morning I don't know what I'm going to wake up to. He has gone way far off the trail. ... Obviously, I am very upset. I can't sleep at night. I can't pay my bills. I think he's receiving bad advice. I think he's making bad decisions."

It appears as though Jon, however, may be receiving bad advice. His lawyer, Mark Heller, was suspended from practicing law from 1994 to 1999 and was found guilty of 18 violations occuring between 1989 and 1992, involving 12 different clients.
