Cleveland City Council Joins Growing List of Issue 3 Endorsers
On Monday, the Cleveland City Council voted overwhelming in favor of endorsing a "yes" vote on State Issue 3, which would make way for casinos to be built in Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo, and Cincinnati. City Council cites the creation of 19,000 jobs and 15,000 permanent jobs in troubling economic times amongst the reasons that they decided to support the issue.
City Council passed emergency Resolution 1456-09 by a vote of 17-2, stating that Issue 3 "will produce $651 million in tax revenue every year, with the vast majority of the funds going to local governments and every school district in the state... studies confirm that the casinos will bring a mandated $1 billion in new economic development."
City Council members met in September with representatives of the Ohio Jobs and Growth Plan, the committee sponsoring the "Yes on Issue 3" campaign, to view a presentation on the proposed casino. In Cleveland, the proposal is to build a casino near Public Square and Gateway, adjacent to the Quicken Loans Arena on the Cuyahoga River.
Even before City Council agreed to support Issue 3, Mayor Frank Jackson had already offered up his endorsement. He too cited the economic benefits to the city of a downtown casino that would attract an estimated eight million visitors per year.
Dan Gilbert, majority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers whose partnership Rock Ventures would build the Cleveland casino, said:
"Cleveland City Council's resolution is another affirmation by the leadership of Cleveland that a casino will bring thousands of jobs and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in development and new tax revenue for Northeast Ohio."
In supporting Issue 3, Cleveland City Council joins a growing list of organizations and elected officials supporting the issue, including:
* Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson
* Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory
* Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner
* The Ohio AFL-CIO
* United Auto Workers (UAW) of Ohio
* Ohio Building and Construction Trades Council
* Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio
* Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association

Why not put the casino in Cleveland. We have Clevend Hopkins Airspace to Control the massive air traffic , if you put it in Clumbus your airspace will be too close toghether.Cleveleand Clinic for major emergencies . A central location between Toledo and Cinnacitti!! As a native Clevelander I should vote this down.

Cleveland City Council regarding issue 3
How could any possibly expect Jimi Dimora to possibly relinquish his city coucil seat. I went to high school with young man before he went on to become mayor of Bedford Hts. for more than 20 years. Then your national Democratic chairman for so many years. What horrible anti Ilalian accussations.
Why this city could never eun it casinos or even build them without him. Issue five or six shouls be irreivant to this .
does the public even know what's good for them?
