According to court documents filed on Friday, Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, is seeking an allowance from his son's estate to help cover expenses exceeding $15,000 per month. Lawyer Brian Oxman filed the request seeking an unspecified amount. Oxman said there was no reason for the administrators of the estate to not seek an allowance for Joe.

Michael Jackson's 2002 will, however, deliberately omitted any mention of his father. The two had a very strained relationship, and Michael said that even the sight of his father would make him physically sick.

Jackson's private trust called for money to be paid to his mother, Katherine, his three children, and charities. A judge so far has approved $26,000 in payments to Katherine each month, and a $60,000 monthly payment for care of the children.

Court documents show that Joe Jackson receives $1,000 monthly in Social Security payment, and that he has relied on his son for support for many years. The filing stated:

“He does not have a regular or steady source of income, and he was dependent upon the money provided by his son, Michael Jackson, through his wife, Katherine Jackson, for his support."

Howard Weitzman, an attorney for the administrators of Jackson's estate said:

“It was quite surprising to learn of the request. Mr. Jackson’s petition will be considered as are all requests for money from Michael’s estate.”

Joe Jackson hasn't surprised us at all. When his son died, he could only think of the ways that it could benefit him financially.
