Dennis Votes the Way Voinovich Will Vote - No!

Ran into an old friend this morning at University Hospital where we older people are likely to meet. Boy was she angry. At Dennis Kucinich, a favorite of hers.

Kucinich, as you may have noted, vote NO on the health care bill the other night. He gave good reasons. It squeaked in by a couple of votes. So his NO vote was a typical Kucinich vote.

But this fan said she had given him her last dime. And I’m sure she’s given him a lot more than that.

I don’t know if Kucinich would have voted NO if his was a deciding vote. Maybe not.

But his NO vote isn’t a surprise to me. Kucinich is playing to the crowd. His crowd. And he’s a hero with his crowd.

They respond. They love the little fighter. Kucinich drew immediate attention on the local Cleveland Leader web site. Today there are nearly 7,500 hits on the posting about his vote. Most I’ve ever seen. I assume that many people around the nation have Dennis Kucinich on a Google alert. Every time his name appears they get a Google alert. They click and read about their hero.

It attests to his national drawing power as a political celebrity.

I can’t find fault with his desire for more comprehensive health care. However, where’s the magic wand that will get us there? Does he have it? Of course not.

We take baby steps, unfortunately. Some can argue that that’s the problem; we never get to adult steps. What we actually need.

Dennis has always played to his crowd, a limited crowd to be sure.

However, the image that clicks to my mind is a State of the Union speech during the George Bush years. I cannot get out of my mind a smiling, seemingly elated Kucinich, hand extended. To George Bush.

While I am no fan of George

While I am no fan of George W (but am a big fan of Dennis) I think one of the things that came into play with that infamous handshake is that the Bush administration changed a law about lawsuits that aided Dennis in a big way. I can't remember the specifics but it was frivolous and the Bush administration went out of there way to help one of their biggest critics.

As for the health care vote - I too was a bit disappointed with his latest actions. You have to be able to put your foot in the door and work towards a better plan. The truth of the matter, unfortunately for America, is that the bozos in the Senate (led by the traitor Lieberman) are going to block the bill anyway.

As for Dennis web traffic -- that story was nothing compared to some of the stories we had when he was running for the highest office in the land....

Im no fan of you

Lieberman is a traitor to our country because he will not support this ridiculous legislation? Please, every one of the democrats who supported this bill should be labeled a traitor.

I do not share Dennis' philosophy but I am please with his vote and I respect his opinion. At least he has the intelligence to think for himself and stand up for what he believes, rather than falling in line like the rest of the corrupt elitists in Washington.

If conservative principals and values do not save this country and legislation like this passes, say goodbye to the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Please tell us why you support this bill? Because everyone is entitled to free health care and there a people dying in the streets? Answer this: how does it possibly make sense to you that we should pay 1 TRILLION plus dollars for the next 10 years (and way more after that), and only receive 5 years of coverage?! You must be brainwashed to think that is a good idea. Are you this fast and loose with your own money or just the government's?

Obama/Pelosi killed Kucinich amendment

The Commerce Committee had passed the "Kucinch amendment" that would have allowed States to opt for a Single Payer system --without the threat of a lawsuit by insurance companies, if they wanted. At the request of the Obama administration, Pelosi took out that amendment.
On top of that, the public option was weakened beyond recognition, covering only a very small percentage of the US population, and therefore making it unable to be a real competition to the Insurace Companies.
And the Stupak amendment, IMHO, should have placed the last nail in the coffin for progressives to support this bill! (but it seems that most progressives in the House decided that supporting the President was more important, and threw women in front of the bus.)

The insurance reform bill that passed (and it is not a healthcare reform!) does little to reign into the insurance companies, and worst, reinforces a very flawed system.

Dennis still has my support

I don't like the baby having

I don't like the baby having to step into this pile of bullshit.Kucinich is right.
