Browns Josh Cribbs Released from Hospital; Agent Upset Over Last Play

The Cleveland Browns not only lost to the Baltimore Ravens at home 16-0 during Monday Night Football, but the game also ended on a very bad note with receiver Josh Cribbs being taken off the field on a stretcher. Fortunately word was given Tuesday morning that Cribbs is alright, but the scare was enough to upset his agent who called the final play of the game "pointless" in their shutout by the Ravens.

Agent J.R. Rickert said in a text:

"I can't even put into words how upset I am at them for leaving him in like that. Fortunately, he's doing well."

Rickert also revealed that Cribbs texted him from the hospital at 3:48am indicating that he was fine. Cribbs had been immobilized on a board and then taken to the hospital by ambulance. Once at the hospital, a series of tests were run, including some to determine whether or not he had suffered a concussion.

The hook-and-ladder play which could have seriously injured the Browns only good player hasn't just been criticized by Rickert. Both a league source as well as Trevor Pryce, a defensive end with the Ravens, have also criticized the play. Catching a 10-yard pass thrown by quarterback Brady Quinn, Cribbs then lateraled to Robert Royal and was drilled with a forearm under the chin by Dwan Edwards.

While medical staff immobilized him, they left his helmet on, but removed the facemask. While he was tended to on-field, both teams knelt and prayed. Cribbs reportedly tried to reassure his team that he was alright by joking and laughing.

Rickert is especially upset with the Browns because Cribbs has been sacrificing his body despite wanting a new contract this year. The team says that they will negotiate in the off season.

Pryce commented on the play:

"Running a play like that when you're down 16 -- what are you trying to prove? I don't understand it. I don't want to say something like that, but heck, it's the truth. Bad things happen when you do something like that. When people are running around like crazy, somebody's going to get hurt. Dewan hit him because he had the ball. He didn't try to hurt him. We prayed for Josh. I hope he's OK. He's a great player."

And Edwards, who delivered the potentially devastating blow, said:

"I was just making a play on the ball. I was just hustling to the ball. I consider myself a hustle player, and I was making a hustle play. I was reacting. I definitely did not try to hurt him. I'm sorry he got hurt."

Edwards maintains that it was not payback for Quinn's low block on Terrell Suggs which knocked Suggs out of the game with a knee injury.
