Unplugged and Unreachable
Tried to reach Ken Maglicic and Joe Kantor after reading about them in Jim Dent’s new book about Notre Dame’s 1964 football season. It was head coach Ara Parseghian’s first year, the season that completely turned around the Irish program. Maglicic and Kantor were quoted at length.
Anyway, I tried to reach both of them the other day, but neither is in the phone book. I know they’re around. They both live here in the Cleveland area. Maglicic went to St. Joe’s High School, Kantor to St. Ignatius.
That leads to one of my pet aggravations. Many people have only cell phones, no land lines, and cell phones are not listed in the phone book.
When you’re out of touch with somebody you’re really out of touch. Maybe permanently.
Speaking of Notre Dame, all signs indicate that football coach Charlie Weis is on his way out. I don’t know anybody who has his back. Notre Dame will spend the rest of time looking for another Parseghian. The two most prominent names on their short list are Brian Kelly of U. of Cincinnati and Fitzgerald of Northwestern. Nobody seriously thinks Notre Dame could pry Urban Meyer loose from Florida or Bob Stoops from Oklahoma.
And now, you asked for it, you sickos, so here they are. For recreational and curiosity purposes only, the point spreads and over/unders on this week’s high school football playoff games.
