"Catcher in the Rye" Author JD Salinger Dead at Age 91
Author J.D. Salinger, best known for his novel "The Catcher in the Rye", has died at the age of 91 in New Hampshire. In a statement issued by his literary representative, Salinger's son says he died of natural causes at his home.
In recent years, Salinger became somewhat of a recluse, choosing to live in isolation in his small, remote house in Cornish, NH.
Salinger wrote mainly for adults, but his book "The Catcher in the Rye" was identified with by teens all over the world. Released in 1951 in the midst of the anxious Cold War era, teens were easily able to identify with the book's immortal teen protagonist, Holden Caulfield.
Later in his life, Salinger was notorious for not wanting to be famous, shunning the spotlight, and refusing to give interviews. His last original published work was in 1965, whilst his last ever interview was in 1980.
Salinger had two children with his wife Claire, Margaret and Matthew.
