9 Year Old in China Gives Birth to Baby Boy

A 9-year-old girl has reportedly given birth to a healthy baby boy in northeast China. MX reported that the boy was delivered via cesarean on January 27 and weighed just a hair over 6lbs. (2.75kg).

The baby was delivered at Changchun hospital in the Jilin province. Nursing staff have refused to comment on the case, but despite the mother's young age and the potential for severe complications, both mother and baby are reported to be doing fine.
The circumstances surrounding the young girl's pregnancy were not known, however, according to the City Evening News, her parents have sought legal help. In China, sex with a child under the age of fourteen is an automatic rape conviction.

Young pregnances are said to be on the rise in China, and according to a Shanghai hospital, about 30 percent of abortions were done on school-age girls.
