13-Year-Old Football Phenom Gives Verbal Commitment to USC
For most talented high school football players, talks of athletic scholarships and committing to play for a particular college don't come until late in their high school careers. But a 13-year-old quarterback has given a verbal commitment to play college ball at USC, an unprecedented move for the sport.
While not totally common, some basketball players have given a commitment to a college before beginning high school, but it is virtually unheard of in football.
David Sills of Bear, Delaware already stands 6-foot tall at 13-years-old. His personal coach, Steve Clarkson, said he is "breaking down NFL footage" and that "His skill set is off the chart." He added that "I've never seen anyone at his age do what he's been able to do.
On Thursday evening, Sills made an unheard of move and told USC head coach Lane Kiffin of his intentions to join the USC Trojans.
Clarkson revealed that the scholarship offer arose after he called Kiffin to talk about a quarterback recruit for next year's class. He says he told the coach, "Well I've got a kid now who is better than all of them and he's in Delaware. You gotta take a look at him."
The teen's father spoke to Kiffin for the first time this week. Speaking with EPSN.com, he said:
"David's always wanted to go to USC. I mean, is there a better place to play football in the country? How can you pass up the best offer you're ever going to get?"

I think it is wonderful to find something you truly enjoy and to be able to do it well enough to be recognized for it; however, I hope that young Mr. Sills and his family have a plan for his education and future options that may not include football. My best to you!
