Monopoly Gets Modern, Featuring a Round Board, Debit Cards & Inflated Prices for 75th Anniversary

Honoring Monopoly's 75th anniversary, Hasbro unveiled a new board design and digital interface for the classic real estate board game. The special "Revolution Edition" won't be available until the fall and sports some pretty major changes.

The actual game board has been totally redesigned. It has gone from the classic square board to a more modern circular board. The locations on the board are the same as always, except now instead of being square each location is now a funky wedge shape. Hotels and houses are pretty much the same, but the pewter character pieces have been replaced with plastic tokens.

Another major change to this edition is the replacement of paper money. Going green, Hasbro ditched the trademark funny money paper bills with a fake debit card and a computer banker. This alone will revolutionize game play as it will be much harder to slip some extra cash into your coffers. Some special editions already feature the fake ATMs, so it's not a totally new concept.

Prices in Monopoly land have also gone up, reflecting inflation and the passage of 75 years. Instead of collecting $200 as you pass go, you'll now collect $2 million. That means property prices, houses, and fees have all gone up as well.

And because today's youth aren't content with a mere old board game, Hasbro has spruced up the action with music, such as "Crazy in Love" by Beyonce, Rihanna's "Umbrella" and Daniel Powter's "Bad Day."
