Former presidential candidate John Edwards was dumped by his wife, Elizabeth, but that's not keeping him down. Instead of wallowing in sorrow, Edwards, who cheated on her with ex-staffer Rielle Hunter, is getting ready to marry once more.

The National Enquirer is reporting that Edwards proposed to Hunter last month at the same time he issued a public statement confirming that he fathered her 2-year-old daughter, Frances Quinn. Hunter, 45, reportedly answered "yes" when he popped the question.

Edwards, 56, released the statement on January 21. One week later, his cancer-stricken wife Elizabeth, 60, confirmed that the had legally separated after 32 years of marriage.

Edwards is said to be planning to purchase a posh $3.5 million beachfront home where they can live together. He is expected to be formally divorced later this year, which would pave the way for him to re-marry.

A source told the paper:

"John dropped the proposal bomb on Rielle shortly before he issued his statement. John knew Rielle had been waiting for a proposal for two long years. Since they've gotten involved, she's followed every order he gave her, going on a cross-country cover-up, hiding away during her pregnancy and after giving birth for the sake of his presidential aspirations."
