Old NES Video Game System Tops $13,000 in Auction

Last week, a North Carolina eBay user who goes by the name lace_thongs35 put up for auction on the site a 1980's era Nintendo Entertainment Center and sweetened the deal with five games. She didn't think there was anything special about the console or the games, so imagine her shock when after the first bid the price was over $6,000. When the auction closed Wednesday the final price was over $13,000.
So what was so special about it? The console itself wasn't plated in gold, it wasn't the first NES ever produced, and in fact there wasn't anything special about it at all. One of the games she bundled with it, however, was a rare gem. The obscure 1987 release called Stadium Events is a highly sought after collectors' item, and what made her copy worth even more was the fact that it was in the original cardboard box. Fewer than 10 complete copies of the game are thought to exist, and it is considered to be one of the hardest to find NES games ever made.
