Elton John Says Jesus Was Gay
During an interview on Friday, singer Elton John stirred up some major controversy when he made the claim that Jesus Christ was "gay". In the interview, which was posted on the website of the magazine Parade, John said:
"I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East - you're as good as dead."
The Catholic League, the largest U.S. Catholic rights group, was quick to condemn the comments, with league president Bill Donohue stating:
"Jesus was certainly compassionate, but to say he was 'super-intelligent' is to compare the son of God to a successful game-show contestant. More seriously, to call Jesus a homosexual is to label him a sexual deviant. But what else would we expect from a man who previously said, 'From my point of view, I would ban religion completely'?"

Of course the church would oppose this, they have to control what every man and woman thinks. It isn't that hard of a concept to believe. Jesus was a single man in his thirties in a society that was HUGE on wives and families. Is the church that naive to think that being gay is something that was created? The elders of the oh so wise church could not be open minded enough to be christian like themselves - as christians are so quick to spout- as to realize that ALL types of people can be loving, intelligent and compassionate. Oh I forgot only if the church allows..... and by the way I am not gay, and only feel the need to state this for you narrow minded folks that think I'm tooting my horn.
Very intelligent comment on this article! I applaude your decision to reply and could not agree more. I truly hope there are more people with your insight!
Being someone who believes in Jesus , I surely would not put a gay label on Christ. I totally discount Elton John's comment. It was a sound bite to get media attention. Nothing more. And the media, is drawn like flies to anything controversial.
It isn't about what the church says, it's about what God says. It is very clear in the Bible that homosexuality is a sin. Read Leviticus 18:22, Genesis 20:13, Romans 1:26-27--These are a few of the many verses that teach against homosexuality. Sure people who are gay can be loving, kind, intelligent etc... But it does not change the fact that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination. The comment made was extremely disrespectful and unacceptable.
Jesus is all things to all people-if this were not the case, he could not represent every one of us, as all of us are considered sinners and fallen short.
Jesus has even been considered to be a mushroom, in one obscure conceptualization. One thing that is very rare is to see him considered as a woman. Why are all these ideas possible? Is not the whole story of Jesus' life portrayed in the Gospels?
The reason is this-the entire story of Jesus is a re-working of several pagan mythos that existed for thousands of years before the gospels were written. Jewish culture was always supremely good at assimilating ancient beliefs and re-creating the stories as historical fiction. We all carry the resonance of the past, a past which used these same culturally interpreted myths in an effort to expand our spirit. It can be activated at any time, any where through any kind of belief that touches upon this vibrant history within us. The Catholic of "unified" church knows this as well as any, though they are always afraid to speak the truth for fear of losing power. But the truth sets one free (their fear of course) and actually makes the whole gospel rendition even more fascinating...and far more real...beyond the literal moment in time it is placed in.
Jesus wasn't gay. Just because he didn't marry in a population that was big on marrying and family doesn't indicate He was gay. As it says in the bible by Paul, when a man takes a wife, it takes his attentions and time away from serving the Lord. Jesus of all people couldn't have taken time away from his mission to save us. If God had wanted Him to take a wife, he would have. Just so you know, I am not a narrow minded person. I am not predjudiced an anyway. I do however, believe what the bible preaches.
I've always had a low opinion of Elton John, but hearing that he once said 'From my point of view, I would ban religion completely', I have to applaud him... at least on that basis.
Regarding the claim that Jesus was gay, well, who cares? If he had been gay, then he would have set a far better example of how to behave, than he would have as a straight man. Gays are notoriously non-violent individuals, whereas heterosexuals have caused and acted-out the most, and the most terrible, violence this planet has ever seen.
Last but not least, Jesus never existed. There is no such thing as a God and therefore there is no such thing as a son of God. No historical documents from the time Jesus was supposed to have lived supports his existence. There may have been humans named Jesus, at that time, but none of controversy, and none of consequence, and certainly none which were the offspring of a deity.
So explain to me why it matters that Elton John reportedly said Jesus was gay?
Jesus "said"....."don't let the left hand know what the right hand is doing"
This comment may indicate that Jesus was a single man having difficulty with sex, so he masturbated. Oh well.....
I gotta say this is so ridiculous it's actually laughable. I mean... how could someone that never existed be gay.... Impossible!
Thanks for the great article exclusive factor as well. use by this.
So I am sitting in my chair awe struck and thinking how is this possible. How can people think that it is normal to judge things like this? I mean so he used the gay word. Any thing could happen regarding such subject and I don't even think that this matter is important. For each of us Jesus has its own face and its own rights and wrongs depending on our rights and wrongs...
