New Reality Show "Brighton Beach" Swaps "Jersey Shore" Guidos for Ruskies

If you were a fan of MTV's "Jersey Shore", which both captivated the nation and enraged Italian-Americans, you might be interested in a new reality series based on a similar premise. Instead of Snooki and Pauly D though, "Brighton Beach" will feature stars with names like Ivan and Natasha.

"Brighton Beach", which would chronicle the lives of eight techno-blasting, fur-wearing, vodka-guzzling Russian-Americans while they share a Brooklyn, NY, summer house. Alina Dizik, 26, a freelance writer whose family emigrated from the former Soviet Union when she was 7, is one of the co-creators of the show.

She says:

"We're hoping to dispel some of the stereotypes and promote some of the others. Not all Russian people just guzzle vodka.

Dizik partnered up with one of her childhood friends, Elina Miller, and her friend Christine Mahin, to create the show. They all saw "Jersey Shore", a reality show centered around Italian-Americans, and decided that they'd like to try a Russian twist.

Now, they just need a network to pick up the show. Miller is an assistant producer on several television programs, and has used her connections in the TV world to meet with reps from a few cable TV networks. They will make their final pitch after the March 8 casting deadline.

While they haven't yet found a suitable summer house, they have set up a website - brightonbeachshow.com - and are accepting applications for cast members aged 21 to 30.

I live in the area where this BS is gonna be filmed and countless peopled are sickened by it. Russian people in Brighten Beach are trash. They are a huge burden to everyone and now were going to glorify it? Bravo. Lets have more non english speaking Russians come here and continue to ruin this once beautiful area.

You are a sad human being who can't spell. Brighton is a predominantly Russian community anyway, so I'm not sure who is "sickened" by it, or why a television show would "ruin" an area? Anyways, get a grip!

Since you're interested in Brighton Beach, thought you should know:

A NY-based producer I know has created and is casting for two new reality shows. One is called 'Private Lives: From Battleground to Boardinghouse,' and focuses on young veterans (who will be cast to live in a house together) who have just returned from overseas tours of duties. It will document them living, working, and trying to adjust to civilian life again. She and her co-creator are beginning pitches to major networks and cable outlets in LA next week. The creator of the show lived with and became very close with many of these young vets while recently producing an indie feature film on the same subject.

The other show she's doing is a bit of a spin-off on Jersey Shore (yes, again). It's called 'Redneck Riviera.' The creator/producer is actually originally from the area (Alabama native), so knows this culture intimately. She feels strongly that the South is underrepresented in reality TV. Looks like this show is in the process of being picked up as well.
