Dreaming Your May Garden In Spring

It’s spring time, time to plan your beautiful garden for the month of May. The April showers may bring May flowers in May, but April showers also bring with them staying indoors and dreaming your beautiful garden into reality.

This planning is one of the most fun things about gardening, when there is the total desire to go out and start gardening, but you have kept it in check because of April. So you sit with pen and sketchpad in hand, planning away your garden.
Close your eyes and visualize your garden first. Bringing a garden to life is no different from painting a picture and you have to visualize it first. Imagine what color you want to place where, and what should be the centerpiece of your garden. Do you want a fountain or some other form of flowing water? Visualize exactly how you want it, and then start work with the paper and pen.

One of the most important parts of painting is the white canvas, and the artist needs to know how much of it to color, and how much to leave alone. So, for a garden, the grass is like the canvas. Don’t sow more grass seeds than you require, because you want some color in your garden, of course. But also remember that green grass itself is one of the most beautiful of plants, and you want to retain as much of it as you should.

Use colored pencil, if you want to, that’s a good way to see what you have on your mind. You can also show your design around to your family and friends, get their suggestions and inputs. When you are all done, get your tools ready and shiny, and as soon as the first wisp of May sets in, go out into the garden and bring it back to life from winter.
