This Year, One Flu Shot Will Protect You From Swine Flu & Two Other Strains

Flu season is in full-swing, and health officials in the US are urging nearly everyone to get vaccinated. This year, however, you won't need to get a seasonal flu shot and a swine flu shot. Rather, now there is an all-in-one flu vaccine that promises to help protect against swine flu and two other strains. There's even a high-dose version designed for seniors age 65 and up.

Unlike 2009, where long-lines and short supplies were the norm, this year a record vaccine supply is expected. Shipments of the vaccines also began early so that drugstores could offer them along with their back-to-school sales.

Without the fear that was present last year, however, the question now is how many people will heed the new policy for near universal vaccination. The only people who aren't recommended to get the flu shot are those under 6 months old and people with severe allergies to eggs, which are used to make the vaccine.
