Android Now Has 25 Percent of the Mobile Web Market

Quantcast has just released its latest mobile web share numbers, and it's looking good for Google's Android operating system. Android has seen its greatest gains since November 2009, and now captures 25% of the mobile Internet, a 17% jump from this time last year.
The iPhone still has a pretty significant hold on the market, with 56%.
According to Quantcast, iOS users did 68% of all the mobile Web browsing in May of 2009, whereas Android users did a mere 9% of mobile Web browsing. Since then, iOS’s share has steadily dropped off, while Android’s has grown markedly.
Some of Android' growth came at the expense of RIM's BlackBerry platform, and some came from other platforms, such as Nokia's Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Palm's Palm OS and WebOS. The rest has come from iOS.
With the momentum behind Android, it's likely that it will catch up with Apple, if not eclipse it, within the next year or so.
