Tony Rizzo Leaving Fox 8

Tony Rizzo confirmed today that he will leave Fox 8 when his contract expires at the end of the year. No word yet on his replacement.

The Rizz is going to concentrate on his wildly popular morning sports radio show on WKNR (850 AM), where his radio duties will be expanded.

Tony has been burning the candle at both ends in recent years, anchoring sports on the 6 and 10 p.m. news shows on Fox 8, then waking up early the next morning for his radio shift on WKNR from 9 a.m. to noon. It’s an exhausting schedule and I don’t know how he does it.

Most people find it difficult to understand how someone could actually make more money on the radio than on television, but that’s the situation in Rizzo’s case. He could become wealthy on the radio when his show -- “The Big Show” -- is syndicated. Three minutes on television isn’t enough. He needs three hours and on WKNR that’s what he gets.

“Crazy, with Papers to Prove It”

In the meantime Rizz and his radio partner Aaron Goldhammer will be at my book signing Friday night at midnight at Herb’s Tavern in Rocky River. So will my wife, Maddy, sons Joe and Mike, daughter Mary, daughters-in-law Jeana and Katie, and several Fox 8 people. Lou Maglio will be there if his wife allows him to stay out that late. We don’t get off the air until 11:30 on Friday night, which explains the Midnight Madness book signing.

By the way, if you want to help fuel the momentum of my book, “Crazy, with Papers to Prove It,” dial up Amazon.com and post a comment on “book reviews.” Just tell ’em how much fun the book is. Take my word for it. I’m a published author.

That’s all for now.
