Google Froogle Gets a Name Change

So long, "Google Froogle", and hello to your new name "Google Product Search". Hoping to boost its "Google Checkout" service Google has changed the name of "Google Froogle" to a more traditional name Google Product Search. The company launched "Froogle" in time for the 2002 Holiday rush but the name really never resonated with the search engines users. The company hopes the re branded product will help it gain better traction in the world of online shopping. "I don't think we understood the complications with rolling out another brand. While it was a cute and clever name, it had issues around copyright and trademark, as well as internationalisation… The pun (to be 'frugal') isn't obvious," Marissa Mayer, Google's vice president of search product and user experience, said this week.

"Google Product Search", for the record, is a tool that you lets users find the best price for products searching online or at the store. I for one think the name change is silly and personally like the "Froogle" name better but I am not a decision maker at a multi-billion dollar company so maybe these things are beyond me.
