Scott Boras Says He Has Had No Discussions With Indians to Extend Shin-Soo Choo's Contract

It is getting more and more apparent that Scott Boras wants Indians star Shin-Soo Choo out of Cleveland. When asked about negations, the super-agent told MLB.com with the that he has had no discussions with Indians regarding a contract saying.

"I don't think I'll be doing a lot of discussing on those fronts right now," Boras said.

Without a contract, Choo will go to salary arbitration in the offseason. The Indians are putting on a brave face on the matter.

"It's something we remain interested in (a contract extension)," GM Chris Antonetti told MLB.com. "Scott's really busy at the Meetings. He's got a lot of things on his plate. He has a lot of free agents that are out there and I know that he's spending a lot of time doing that. Also, I think if you look at the marketplace, there haven't been a lot of arbitration-eligible players that have signed multiyear deals. There's not a list of those guys.

"There tends to be a natural timeline to the offseason and hopefully shortly after the Meetings I'll have an opportunity to talk with Scott and, at that point, he and I can communicate directly on how we see things and address potential concerns for each other and see if there's potentially common ground."

Choo isn't eligible for free agency until after the 2013 season but in the offseason told a South Korean reporter that he wanted a "transfer" out of Cleveland. Odds are that Boras and Choo both see big dollar signs if he were to go to a city with a larger Korean fanbase and want to force the Indians hand to ship him out of town but that would stunt the Indians growth as he is the main pillar in their rebuilding phase and would further disgruntle an already frustrated fanbase.
