The City of Cleveland recently removed a traffic camera directed at eastbound traffic on Broadway near East 88th Street. In 2010, the speed camera issued 3,740 violations after being in operation for only 194 days of the year, making it one of the busiest cameras in Cleveland.
Just two other cameras in the city - both on Chester Ave. at East 71st Street, generated more tickets per day.
When City Council approved a new two-year contract with the camera company in May, they also agreed to remove the camera. Councilman Zack Reed called it a speed trap and asked that it be moved out of his ward.
The camera may have been unplugged, but it will soon find a new home at another Cleveland intersection by year's end.
