Cleveland's Puerto Rican Parade & Latino Fest Changes Dates & Location

Cleveland's annual Puerto Rican Parade and Latino Fest will occur again this summer, but not as it had been planned. Festival organizers have announced that this year's event will not be held during its typical third weekend of July at the east end of a city-owned lot between the Shoreway and South Marginal Road.
The festival will be held this year on August 17 to 19, and will be located at the west end of the North Coast Parking lot downtown. The change in location is due to the Cleveland Clinic's parking shortage, whose employees are currently using the east end of the lot and taking shuttle buses to and from the Cleveland Clinic campus in University Circle.
A new parking garage is currently under construction near the Cleveland Clinic, which will reduce some of the parking shortages they are experiencing on their expanding campus. However, it won't be completed until next year, which put the fate of the festival in some doubt.
However, the city and festival organizers worked together to find a way to let it go on this year. They agreed to move it to the west end of the lot, but then ran into some problems with other events being scheduled there. So, they moved the date to mid-August.
The Puerto Rican Parade and Latino Festival has been running continuously for 38 years now in Cleveland, and not even a little parking problem can stop it. Next year's location has not yet been finalized, but organizers are already thinking ahead. The event is sponsored annually by the city of Cleveland, Councilman Joe Santiago, and other corporations.
