The once rundown horse race track known as Thistledown, which is located across the street from the now vacant Randall Park Mall in North Randall, Ohio, is in the midst of a massive makeover. Renovations are now underway at the suburban Cleveland track to transform it into a racino, or a horse track that also has slot machine-like video lottery terminals, and operators say that it is on schedule to open in April.
Rock Ohio Caesars, which also owns the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland located downtown, is spending $88 million on the renovations.
The gaming floor will feature a food court, bar, specialty restaurants, and a nightlife area with entertainment.
Thistledown has already begun posting job vacancies and expects to hire over 600 people to fill the new positions.
So far, just one racino is operating in Ohio - Scioto Downs in Columbus - but several others are in the process of setting one up as well.
