According to the Al-Alam News Network, Iran has now made good on their threats to send a monkey into space. Details of the mission are limited at the moment.
The Voice of Russia reports that Iran has previously sent up "mice, turtles, and Worms", and Deputy Science Minister Mohammad Mehdinejad-Nouri says that putting animals in space is "strategic, and a priority." It is presumed that Iran's interest in sending animals into space is a part of developing the country's long-term nuclear capability.
It is not known if the launch or mission was successful.
