Grom Gelato: A Tasty Italian Treat Now Available in the U.S.
New Yorkers are going crazy for Grom, an Italian gelateria that opened its first U.S. outpost in Manhattan on May 5th. On opening day, the lines to get a taste of this delicious treat wrapped around the block, with reports of people waiting over an hour and a half in line.
Now, one of the reasons that the line was so crazy was that Grom's owners were giving away free gelato that day, and The New York Times made sure that everyone knew about it. Long lines for Grom gelato are an everyday occurrance in Italy, according to Mr. Grom himself. He attributes the lines to the gelato's drug-like qualities: "..we think our gelato is like a drug. Once they have their free taste, they'll be hooked."
Boy was he ever right.
Those who waited in line for their free taste said it was worth it, and Grom continues to be a wild success. The crack method of marketing worked.
So if you're in the Big Apple, make sure you stop by Grom and get a taste for yourself. And if you need an excuse, well, chalk it up to it being National Ice Cream Month. Prices are as follows: $4.75 small, $5.75 medium, and $6.75 large.
Grom is located at 2165 Broadway (at 76th St), New York, NY 10024. Check out the menu at the English version of their site.
It's not yet available in other cities, and it's not clear if Grom plans to expand their U.S. operations, but at least the trip to NY is shorter than going to Italy for a taste.
