Crocs Reported to Cause Injury on Escalators
The ugliest shoes known to man, Crocs, are now being blamed for everything from accidents on school playgrounds to even more dangerous situations of injuries on escalators.
According to an ABC Report that ran in April, Crocs may pose a serious threat to children riding on escalators. The rubbery clog-like shoes can easily become wedged between the moving stairs and the side of the escalator, often trapping the child's foot. Some businesses have even begun to post signs warning customers to be careful wearing Crocs on escalators.
Over 250 million people zip up and down escalators every day, and so far only a small number of Croc-related incidents have been reported. But for those unfortunate enough to experience such Croc-related injuries, it's enough to make them chuck the eye-sore shoes.
Croc-related escalator injuries are preventable. If you can avoid it, don't wear them to the mall or other places where there are escalators. If you must wear them, however, try to stay towards the center of the escalator, and pay attention when it is time to get off. In the rare event of an accident, either involving yourself or someone else, there is always an emergency shut-off switch on all escalators. Call out for help, and have someone shut it off.
Or, you can avoid the problems altogether and just stop buying and wearing the ugly things.
